Cannes 2015 Best Dressed

Last week a selection of the film industry's finest flocked to the French Riviera for the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival.

As it's the most glamorous of festivals it seemed only fitting to pour over images from the twelve days of photo-calls, events and premieres and narrow down my favourite looks to collate a Best Dressed list.

The Ciné File Vol. 31

It's a mixed bag this week, from stylish but flawed romance The Age of Adaline; to classic Jack Ryan in Patriot Games; generic Liam Neeson action-thriller Non-Stop and pure food porn from Jon Favreau with Chef. Something for everyone then?!

Transformation Tuesday: Week 47

I don't really understand how I'm managing this, but I'm currently riding a wave of positivity and motivation and the results are pretty good indeed.

The Ciné File Vol. 30

This fortnight features an old favourite (Legally Blonde); a recent favourite (Captain America: The Winter Soldier); and a brand new favourite (Far From the Madding Crowd).

Plus, I've finally watched the Mad Max trilogy, and although I wasn't impressed I'm glad I've finally seen it. New release Mad Max: Fury Road, however, is in another league entirely and completely deserves the full five stars!

#100DaysofHobbies : DAYS 21-40

I fully intended to post these updates of my #100DaysofHobbies Project every 10 days but life well and truly got in the way over the last few weeks, so this is a much larger post than I would have liked!

On the contrary to what my disorganised posting schedule might suggest, I've still been keeping up with the challenge, making sure to set aside time every day to pursue my hobbies. I'm starting to see it as a way to do something every single day that makes me smile, and so far it's working perfectly.

Transformation Tuesday: Week 46

I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but I feel fantastic.

I've never felt better, more inspired and just plain content than I do at the moment, and as such I couldn't care less about my weight this week.

Met Ball 2015 Best Dressed

Monday evening saw the worlds of fashion, art and entertainment collide with the annual fundraising Costume Institute Gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

This year the Met Ball honoured the new fashion exhibition "China: Through the Looking Glass" (running from May 7th - August 16th 2015), and as expected Anna Wintour's dress code left ample opportunity for guests to impress on the red carpet with intricate embroidery, rich colours and beautiful jewellery. As ever there were jaw-dropping looks aplenty, from the ludicrously over-the-top to the understated and stunning, but even from both ends of the spectrum it was yet again a wonderful evening for the fashion world.

After all, the Met Ball is known as the fashion Oscars for a reason!

Rolo Cupcakes

I impulse-bought a sharing bag of Rolos a few weeks ago with the intention of baking something with them, and today seemed like the perfect time to plug in my KitchenAid, switch on the oven and briefly take over the kitchen for a spot of Bank Holiday baking.

These Rolo Cupcakes were a bit of an experiment, and I'm pleased to say they worked pretty well! Like my Raspberry & White Chocolate Easter Cake I knew exactly what I wanted to do, it just took a bit of research to find the right recipes to combine to make my vision a reality. After a lot of consideration I decided on a fluffy chocolate sponge topped with a sweet caramel frosting and crowned with a Rolo (I couldn't make my mind up with the chocolate/caramel cake/frosting combination!).

This is a ridiculously easy recipe. I'm not kidding: it's virtually impossible to go wrong with and it requires very little baking knowledge at all. So, if you're not the most confident of bakers this is the recipe for you!

The Ciné File Vol. 29

Given the fact that most of the films this week are repeat viewings, this post is more of a collection of short opinion pieces than full reviews: I don't see any point in repeating myself unnecessarily!

I'm still riding an Avengers high - surprise, surprise - and I'm steadily working my way through Modern Family. It's not been a particularly ground-breaking week for film and television, but it's not been a waste either!

Coming Soon: May 2015

Aside from the obvious - Far From the Madding Crowd, Pitch Perfect 2, Tomorrowland, Mad Max: Fury Road - I initially didn't think May was a particularly noteworthy month for film, but I couldn't be more wrong. Out of all of the Coming Soon posts I've done over the last few months, I don't think I've been as unexpectedly excited and intrigued by such a large and varied selection of new releases.

May really has something for everyone, and if there's ever a time to branch out and try a film out of your comfort zone then this is the month to throw caution to the wind and just go for it.

It's an eclectic month. American comedian and winner of 20 Primetime Emmy Awards, Jon Stewart, makes his directing debut with Rosewater, the true story of an Iranian-Canadian journalist detained and interrogated by Iranian forces under the suspicion that he is a spy. Chris Rock writes, directs and acts in Top Five, a celebrity satire that has been loved by critics. Described as the "first Iranian vampire Western" (is there anything more intriguing?!), A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night looks like a stylish and unmissable multi-genre offering from first-time feature film director Ana Lily Amirpour. There's also the Blake Lively romance The Age of Adeline; digital horror Unfriended; and French coming-of-age drama Girlhood. Plus, Timbuktu - the Mauritanian film that achieved widespread critical acclaim and swept up at the César awards this year (its 7 wins out of 8 nominations made it the most successful African film ever at the awards); and Clouds of Sils Maria, the movie that won Kristen Stewart a Best Supporting Actress César award, making her the first American actress to do so.

Read on for trailers, synopsis and dates as ever... Mark your diaries: this is an epic month!
