SAG Awards 2014 Best Dressed

The awards season marathon continues, and last night saw the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards at Los Angeles' Shrine Exposition Centre. The SAG awards are the only televised awards ceremony to exclusively celebrate the best of film and television acting, with 13 awards for individual performances and ensemble casts. American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave and Dallas Buyers Club fully cemented themselves as the front runners in the awards race (as if it wasn't already apparent…); and in television Breaking Bad has ended on a total high, continuing to sweep up awards following the explosive series finale last year.

My Best Dressed of the evening is a tie between Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Dormer. JLaw totally redeemed herself after a Golden Globes disaster and looked amazing in Dior (who else?!). I love the simplicity of the cut and the detailing of the multi-coloured sequins, not to mention her statement American Hustle-esque Jennifer Meyer earrings. Natalie Dormer showed off her more daring side with monochrome Marius Schwarb. My favourite part of her look though has to be the big reveal of her undercut for her role as Cressida in The Huger Games: Mockingjay. Very edgy and very unexpected but somehow she pulls it off with aplomb.

Bonus points for the evening must go to Anna Gunn. She made her appearance on the red carpet pretty early on in the evening and for the rest of the night Twitter would not stop talking about her. Not only did she look stunning in a blue detailed Monique Lhuillier gown, but she accessorised to perfection with an AMAZING custom Edie Parker Breaking Bad themed clutch. Yeah, bitch.

The red carpet proved to be bit of a family affair this year, with Aaron Paul bringing his sister and Jared Leto attending with his mum. Cutest of the evening though was Tina Fey (in Oscar de la Renta) and her adorable daughter Alice Richmond. Major style points to Fey: it was utterly refreshing to see a child actually dressed age appropriate...

As much as I adore seeing the plethora of incredible gowns from the ladies I am LOVING the risks taken by the men this season. Gone are the days of a plain boring black tuxedo, and instead they're wearing other hues, velvet and patterns. It's so refreshing to see the red carpet and best dressed lists no longer purely dominated by women and for men's fashion to be given the spotlight for a change.
