They're the best night in the awards season calendar for me as not only are they an excuse to fawn over a red carpet, admire the Royal Opera House and laugh with Stephen Fry, but they most importantly support and celebrate the very best of British talent in the film industry. In a market saturated with huge Hollywood hits, I love how the BAFTAs provide special recognition for homegrown excellence - seeing films like The Selfish Giant be nominated in the same categories as colossal box office successes like Gravity really is fantastic. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing more inspiring than seeing the British film industry shine on such a global platform.
My Best Dressed of the evening should come as no surprise. Lupita Nyong'o has totally owned every red carpet she's walked over the last year, and the 2014 EE BAFTAs were no exception. This emerald green Dior Couture gown was simply stunning - is she ever going to put a foot wrong?! I just wish she could have walked away with an award. As much as I liked JLaw in American Hustle, I feel the voters made a mistake last night and Nyong'o was robbed of the Best Supporting Actress gong. My fingers are well and truly crossed for the Oscars now...

As the recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship Award, the Queen of British Film Helen Mirren looked resplendent in her navy Jacques Azagury gown. Accepting the award from Jeremy Irons and the Duke of Cambridge she gave a touching speech paying tribute to her first ever drama teacher Alice Welding and going on to quote from Shakespeare's The Tempest. What a woman.

As well as being a fantastic evening for film, the red carpet was pretty memorable too. There were lots of men in navy blue suits - a trend that I hope is here to stay. Lupita Nyong'o and Angelina Jolie were the stand-out stars for me, but Naomie Harris and Amy Adams provided stiff competition. I'm loving all the colour blocking and column dresses on the red carpet at the moment - I simply adore the combination of clean and simple silhouettes with bold and daring colours.
Huge congratulations to all the winners last night too! I'm especially pleased about Chiwetel Ejiofor's Lead Actor win; Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope winning the Adapted Screenplay award for Philomena; Costume Design going to The Great Gatsby; and The Great Beauty winning best Film not in the English Language. Well-deserving winners all round!
