The Mrs Carter Show 2013

Exams have greatly hindered my ability to blog over the last month, but now they're out the way normal service can resume. First things first, I was lucky enough to see Beyoncé when she performed at the O2 in London as part of The Mrs Carter Show world tour. I wish I'd blogged about this sooner but as a testament to how good it was I can still remember it fresh in my mind as if it was yesterday. Seeing her in person has confirmed that when I grow up I want to be Beyoncé.

I've never seen anything like The Mrs Carter Show, and I doubt I ever will. For the first time in a while I made the decision not to take many pictures at all and watch the show through the lens of a camera, instead just enjoying the show properly. I’m so glad I did. With 12 costume changes, an insanely talented group of dancers, and a section where she moved across the arena to her ‘B stage’ via a zip-wire, Beyoncé knows how to put on a show the audience will never forget. There was no shortage of glamour and she performed with an unfaltering energy, commanding the stage at all times with a smile as wide as the Thames. 

It was an evening of high-octane hits that had everyone on their feet singing along and dancing with abandon. In particular, the group of women in the seats below us were having the time of their lives, alternating huge bouts of booty-shaking with collapsing in their seats and frantically fanning themselves cool. Hearing the entire arena belt out all of the words to ‘Crazy in Love’ and ‘Single Ladies’ in unison is something I’ll never forget. Goosebump-inducing moments were aplenty from the moment the lights dropped, the Craig David-esque support act had shuffled off and the opening bars of ‘Run the World’ thundered around the arena.

Grown Woman

An incredible tribal-themed performance of Beyoncé’s new song was my ultimate favourite moment of the entire show. I've watched recordings of it on YouTube hundreds of times over the last month as it was just out-of-this-world.

 

 

 

Freakum Dress

The fashion for this song had me and my friends gasping. So fierce!

 

Zip Wire

She flew on a ZIP-WIRE. This needs no further explanation.

 

 

Graphics

The graphics throughout the performance were amazing, with an Elizabethan-style Beyoncé as seen on all of the advertising popping up, along with images of Blue Ivy that had the entire arena melting.
